An excersize ball and some dumbbells are a great way to workout in your home in the winter months

You can work towards having a great shape naturally even in the cold and dreary winter months.  Jogging over icy sidewalks and roadways is probably not your idea of a good time.  Going for walks when it feels as if it is zero degrees out is not likely to motivate you to exercise.  You might not even feel like bundling up and heading out in the cold in order to go to the gym.  Fortunately, you do not need to do any of those things in order to stay in shape.

Set up your own aerobics class in your family room.  Follow along to a hip new aerobics video or enjoy some of the classics (Like Dancing to the Oldies).  Scan your TV guide in order to find listings of aerobics shows on television.  Don’t forget to add some jump roping, jogging in place and jumping jacks.

Invest in one of the stepper tools.  These handy exercise items look like one or two steps.   You will lose weight and tone hip and thigh muscles as you step up and down.  Add an extra skip to your step or some other moves.  You can also use the bottom steps on your staircase for this simple exercise.  Turn up your favorite music as you step your way to a toner body.

Dance, dance and dance.  If you watch Dancing With the Stars, you will see that many of the dancers have a transformation before your very eyes.  You do not need to be a candidate on the show to lose weight while having a good time dancing.  Dance along to your favorite music video or the radio.  Ask your kids or spouse to dance with you as well.

Purchase some resistance bands or dumbbell sets in order to tone your body.  You do not need heavy weights to get into shape.  Many weight sets include a chart with sample exercises.  Additionally, you can find exercises online or in exercise manuals at local health and fitness stores.

Buy an exercise ball.  An exercise ball provides a safe way for you to exercise without stress and strain to your body.  Purchase an exercise video or follow the exercises listed in the instructions.  Create your own exercise styles as well.

Consider investing in a treadmill.  You can walk, jog or even run on your treadmill.  Start slow and gradually create inclines.  Walk or jog for short distances at first until you have enough stamina to remain on the treadmill for one half hour or more.  You can walk or jog while listening to music or even watching your favorite television show.

Find your perfect shape through healthy eating as well.  Cut down on the number of times you eat out or the amount of fast foods you eat.  Cook home cooked meals whenever possible rather than processed and unnatural foods.  Limit the amount of fatty foods or those high in sugars or cholesterol that you eat.

Healthy living and a great shape is possible even in the wintertime.
